Melatonin (also known as melatonin, melakonin, melatonin, pineal hormone) is an amine hormone produced by the pineal gland of mammals and humans, which can make a melanin-producing cell shine, hence the name melatonin.

Pineal hormone, also known as melatonin, is a hormone secreted by pineal cells. Its chemical structure is 5-methoxy-N-acetyltryptamine. Its physiological function is to inhibit gonad, thyroid, adrenal gland, parathyroid gland and pituitary gland functions, inhibit child sexual precocity and reduce pituitary melanotropin secretion.

And has the central nervous system function, can raise the convulsive threshold, causes drowsiness and so on.

When the pineal gland was removed, the experimental animals showed hyperplasia and weight increase of all the above-mentioned glands, especially premature gonads and sexual organs of immature rats, increased secretion of LH and FSH from pituitary gland, and increased secretion of thyroid and adrenal cortical hormones.

Pineal element can also reduce the pituitary MSH and whiten the skin.

It acts on the central nervous system, showing slow rhythm, increasing convulsion threshold and lethargy in human electroencephalogram, but it does not affect their behavior and personality. It can reduce the electroencephalogram changes of motor nervous disorders in people with temporal lobe epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.
