The efficacy and role of Bitter Melon Extract 10% Charantin

Anti-diabetic effectBitter melon contains steroidal saponins such as balsam pear, insulin-like peptides and alkaloids, which impart hypoglycemic activity to bitter melon.

This hypoglycemic effect is due to two substances:

    (1) Momordica charantia - a crystalline substance obtained from the ethanolic extract of the fruit of bitter gourd.

Momordica charantia exhibits pancreatic and extrapancreatic effects and has mild antispasmodic and anticholinergic effects.

    (2) P-insulin (or v-insulin, because it is plant insulin).

Its structure is a macromolecular polypeptide configuration, and its pharmacology is similar to bovine insulin. P-insulin consists of two polypeptide chains linked by disulfide bonds. Subcutaneous and intramuscular administration of P-insulin in diabetic patients has a hypoglycemic effect.

    Antiviral function and others

Bitter gourd standard extract has been shown to be effective against psoriasis, susceptibility to cancer, pain due to neurological complications, and may delay the onset of cataracts or retinopathy and inhibit HIV by destroying viral DNA.

Studies have shown that bitter melon extract inhibits lymphocyte proliferation and macrophage and lymphocyte activity.
