Product Description:
Barbituric Acid is an organic compound in the form of a white crystalline powder, easily soluble in hot water and dilute acids, soluble in ether and slightly soluble in cold water. The aqueous solution is strongly acidic. It can react with metals to form salts.
Application:
(1) Intermediates for the synthesis of barbiturates, phenobarbital and vitamin B12, also used as a catalyst for polymerisation and as a raw material for the production of dyes.
(2) It is used as an analytical reagent, a raw material for organic synthesis, an intermediate in plastics and dyes, and a catalyst for polymerisation reactions.
(3) Several derivatives of malondiylurea with two hydrogen atoms on the methylene group substituted by hydrocarbon groups are known as barbiturates, an important class of sedative-hypnotic drugs.
